Joint Editorial Board Memos on BOD Dilutions and pH in Color Measurements

June 27, 2017

Over the years, the Standard Methods Joint Editorial Board (JEB) has issued a series of memos regarding Section 5210 Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD). These memos attempted to answer questions that have arisen over the use of BOD to determine nutrient pollution, a response to inquiries about the determination of acceptance criteria with multiple dilution water blanks for BOD, and a clarification of the language regarding the recommended dilution series. Another memo answers questions regarding dilution preparation procedures using volumetric containers or BOD bottles.

Another memo was issued in response to inquiries concerning the determination of pH in the measurement of Color. This impacts the use of Section 2120B Visual Comparison Method.
