New Method: 7110 D - Liquid Scintillation Spectroscopic Method for Gross Alpha-Beta Now Available

This notice is to inform Standard Methods online users that a new method, 7110 D Liquid Scintillation Spectroscopic Method for Gross Alpha-Beta, is now available for download. 7110 D was approved after development of the print 23rd Edition was completed, and will only be available online.

This method has been officially approved by the US EPA Office of Water for demonstrating compliance with the Safe Drinking Water Act (https://www.gpo.gov/fdsys/pkg/FR-2017-07-27/pdf/2017-15380.pdf). It is less sensitive to the solids content of samples and is generally more accurate than the traditional evaporation method. Using liquid scintillation as a detection technique allows labs to achieve lower detection limits with shorter counting times and reduces bias resulting from differences in the mixture of radionuclides present and water matrix composition. The newly approved online method is being added to existing SM 7110 methods.

The online version of the 23rd Edition is undergoing the final stages of proofing and format revisions and will be available for download soon.
