Abstract: 4500-IO3 A. Introduction

1. Occurrence

Iodate is found in natural waters at concentrations ranging from 60 μg/L I in deep ocean water to undetectable (3 μg/L I) in estuarine water and fresh water. Iodate is the thermodynamically stable form of dissolved inorganic iodine in waters containing dissolved oxygen; it is absent in anoxic waters.
